Boston Ranked The #2 Safest Place To Drive? Boston Drivers Disagree
When you think about driving in Boston, you probably cringe and think there are a million things you’d rather do than drive in Boston. The roads here are awful, loaded with potholes and construction. Not to mention there really is no rush hour here. Traffic is heavy on just about every road at any given time of day. And when it comes to aggressive drivers, we are loaded with them. Although, you almost have to be aggressive driving in Boston otherwise you won’t get anywhere. So the fact that Boston is anywhere near the top 10 of the list of safest drivers is a little questionable. So let’s dive in and see how this list was determined.
The car sales company SellMax looked at data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration over four years and found New York City is the safest city to drive in in America. Okay, that right there already sounds sketchy. The fact that Boston came in at #2 and then Jersey #3 means that something must be wrong with this list. But how is it determined? According to Sellmax co-founder Sean Pour, “We based that ranking based on total fatalities, DUI fatalities, and speeding fatalities.” In regards to drunk driving deaths, Boston ranks #2 and it also ranks fifth for speeding fatalities.
When it comes to most dangerous cities to drive in, that title goes to Detroit then Dallas and then Tucson. One of the main factors that contributes to safer driving is more public transportation. Either way, all of us that live in and around Boston may have a lot to say about this list as being safe is one thing, convenience is another and it is NOT convenient to drive anywhere around Boston.
