Patriots reportedly parting ways with Bill Belichick as head coach
According to multiple reports, Robert Kraft and the New England Patriots are parting ways with Bill Belichick as head coach later today. ESPN’s Mike Reiss first reported the major change coming in Foxboro.
Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots are expected to part ways today after a remarkable 24 seasons together, ending an unmatched run in NFL history that included six Super Bowl titles, league sources tell me and @AdamSchefter.

Belichick’s exit brings to an end a 24-year reign as Patriots head coach, a run that included six Super Bowl championships and three other appearances during his unparalleled partnership with quarterback Tom Brady. He finishes his New England tenure with a 266-121 record in the regular season, plus a 30-12 postseason record.
One of the most talked-about side topics in the late stages of Belichick’s career is his chase for Don Shula’s career wins record. Belichick is at 302 total regular season wins, 26 behind Shula’s 328.
The Patriots are moving on from Belichick after the team struggled mightily on offense in the 2023 season, en route to a 4-13 record. The Pats finished tied for dead-last in the NFL in points per game (13.9), 30th in team passer rating (30th), and 31st in total yards (4,696), as their personnel moves at quarterback, wide receiver, and offensive line in recent years culminated in a rock-bottom season for the unit.
Belichick previously said in his end-of-season press conference on Monday: “I’m under contract, do what I always do, which is every day I come in and work as hard as I can to help the team in whatever way I can. So, that’s what I’m going to continue to do.”
If Belichick decides that he wants to continue coaching, he’ll have no shortage of suitors. Multiple reports indicate that among the interested teams are the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Los Angeles Chargers, Las Vegas Raiders, and Washington Commanders.
