What? Pawn Stars in Boston?

When you see that headline, if you're a fan, you immediately think, what do I have that's old, valuable and transportable? If you're not familiar with the popular show on the History Channel, it's basically a pawn shop on TV. The show is hosted by the Harrison family, from their family owned pawn shop in Las Vegas. People from all over the country stop by the shop to get a price on an item, and to see if the item has real value.

Rick Harrison is the host and genius of Pawn Stars, who pitched History to get the show on TV. What makes this show special, is Rick's encyclopedic knowledge. According to the show website: At a young age Rick became a voracious reader, in part due to Epilepsy. Rick would suffer debilitating grand-mal seizures, and be stuck bed ridden for days on end. The family only had one TV, and it wasn't in his room, so he spent most of his time reading.

While the show is pre-taped, you can argue that Rick can prepare in advance and study up on the items in question. But, being a fan of the show and a broadcaster, Rick's natural, off the cuff spit-fire knowledge cannot easily be rehearsed. He seems at ease talking about ANY item that comes through the shop door. It's truly fascinating to watch. Add to that, you find yourself becoming a self-appointed expert on antiques, guessing how much the item is valued at.

Pawn Stars on the History Channel has announced they will be on the road with two stops in Massachusetts.

Rick, Corey, and Chumlee, the famous trio from Las Vegas are scheduled to stop in Boston and Salem out of their 15 locations across the country. For a chance to sell your item email, pawnstarsdoamerica@itv.com.

Yes, that is an authentic signature from Duran Duran lead singer, Simon Le Bon. Back in 2007, my then radio station was LIVE at a listener event featuring Duran Duran. I hosted a town-hall type setting where Duran Duran answered listener questions, LIVE on the air.

The event was so exciting. Simon was thrilled to be there and meet his fans. But, as the event was wrapping up, I realized that I was about to lose a great music memory: Simon Le Bon was leaving, and I forgot to ask him to autograph something. SO, what did I DO? I grabbed the first thing I could find, and shoved it in front of him as he was signing his last item of the day. He laughed and said, "OK." As you can see he wrote: Love radio, Simon Le Bon.

I'm happy to say, that I don't see myself ever selling this, UNTIL NOW.  With Pawn Stars coming, I got to thinking: how much is this signed item of exciting piece of rock memorabilia worth? Wait! I don't have any papers!!! I don't have any proof that it was actually signed by SIMON LE BON! No, did not take a picture of him signing it.

So, IF I were to sell it, I would have to rely on my vast multi-year broadcast reputation. What is THAT worth, on eBay? Probably as much as a fifteen year old mic stand.

Chilmark, MA – The couple have a home in Chilmark on Martha's Vineyard. (Dan Aykroyd is a neighbor!) Ted Danson stared in the 80's sitcom Cheers. Mary Steenburgen won an Oscar for her performance in Melvin and Howard.

Cambridge, MA – He has a massive mansion in Cambridge worth a small penny. Most times he’s on the road but still calls Cambridge his hub. He's most notable for staring in the movie Being John Malkovich.

Cambridge, MA – Yes, we all know who Elizabeth Warren is. When she’s not fighting for commonwealth of Massachusetts in DC , she can be found living in Cambridge. She’s been there for over 20 years!

Oaks Bluffs, MA – The award winning Director and Huge New York sports fan owns a home on the the Vineyard. He also had a feud with long time Boston Celtic Paul Pierce.

Chatham, MA – Ranked among the top 60 best-selling male artists in the United States, by the Recording Industry Association of America. Connick Jr. owns a summer house in Chatham.

Martha’s Vineyard, MA – The singer songwriter has had a place in The Vineyard since 1983 when her and James Taylor where married. She now solely owns the property after her divorce from James Taylor.

Berkshires, MA – The full time Massachusetts resident can be found out in the Berkshires, Lenox to be exact. You can still catch him perform live this summer at Tanglewood.

Tyringham, MA – The legendary Chinese-American Cellist has a home out in Tyringham. Have any idea where that is? Well it’s out in western Mass near the NY-MA boarder. He also is still releasing new music.
