This scene didn’t make it into Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, and when you read about it, you’ll probably understand why.
Actor Joonas Suotamo, who portrayed Chewbacca in the movie, is in the process of writing a book about his time in the Wookie suit. An excerpt from the book, detailed and translated below by The Adam Driver Files on Twitter, tells of a scene that was filmed (and ultimately cut) where Kylo Ren tortures Chewbacca.
NEW excerpt: My Life as a Wookiee (translation from Finnish)-Joonas describes torture scene that was filmed as very intense & very tough for him both as Chewie's actor & also mentally because Adam had "psyched himself to be a real monster through it all, w/ the cameras on or off" pic.twitter.com/Y9jg586L0M— The Adam Driver Files (@AdamDriverFiles) March 4, 2021
“Perhaps the transformation of Kylo Ren into Ben Solo would also have suffered with such an inhumane act that some viewers would see it as unforgivable even though he ended up saving the entire galaxy.” pic.twitter.com/qsMEfKf6IP— The Adam Driver Files (@AdamDriverFiles) March 4, 2021
Dark stuff. Ultimately too dark, one would gather, for director J.J. Abrams to keep in a movie where Ren, the central villain, is redeemed in the end. So do you agree? Or should this scene have made the cut?
