This scene didn’t make it into Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, and when you read about it, you’ll probably understand why.

Actor Joonas Suotamo, who portrayed Chewbacca in the movie, is in the process of writing a book about his time in the Wookie suit. An excerpt from the book, detailed and translated below by The Adam Driver Files on Twitter, tells of a scene that was filmed (and ultimately cut) where Kylo Ren tortures Chewbacca.

Dark stuff. Ultimately too dark, one would gather, for director J.J. Abrams to keep in a movie where Ren, the central villain, is redeemed in the end. So do you agree? Or should this scene have made the cut?
