The Rush Rotisserie Chicken Story You’ve Probably Never Heard
Rush rules, and their sheer awesomeness apparently knows no bounds, whether they’re on stage, off stage, or backstage with chickens.
Michael Kasparis runs Night School Records, an independent label out of Glasgow, Scotland. He recently shared a story about Rush and Geddy Lee that…well, we’ll let him tell it.
Thread.

If you’re in need of a feel good story like me here’s one. In 2007 the Canadian band Rush were touring their Snakes & Arrows LP. I like 3 or 4 records of theirs and a friend at work’s partner worked for the concert promoter so scored 4 of us VIP passes to the London gig
The bass player Geddy Lee had 3 massive washing machines and about 4 industrial chicken rotisseries behind him while playing. No mention in the stage patter. The rotisseries were full of rotating, golden chickens. After the show we decided to go backstage and get a beer

Still high from the gig.

On the way out 3 or 4 roadies were careening towards us with a massive flight case. The smell of roast chicken instantly engulfed the corridor. It was real! Geddy Lee actually roasts chickens during the 2hr set. We asked the crew were they were taking em
Geddy Lee of Rush doing more for London’s homeless in one night than Boris Johnson did in two terms as mayor

Geddy Lee roasting chickens for the homeless while Rush shreds on stage. It’s the feel-good story you didn’t know you needed to hear. ROCK 92.9 Program Director Ken West saw Rush on that 2007 tour and came away with this t-shirt. Talk about a collector’s item!
