Remembering When Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick In The Wall (Part II)” Was No. 1
April 2020. America sits at home and waits out Coronavirus. 40 years ago, America’s pop chart had a Pink Floyd song sitting right on top.
It’s true. On March 22, 1980, Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick In The Wall (Part II)” took over the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed there for four weeks. I know this because Stereogum Senior Editor Tom Breihan has been writing about every No. 1 song in the history of the Hot 100.
His piece on “Another Brick In The Wall (Part II)” is must-read: it talks about the surge of prog-rock through the ’70s and into the ’80s and provides some interesting background on how Pink Floyd made it to Number One. Read it here.
