Frustrated with trying to get a bartender’s attention to get your glass of Savignon Blanc? Or maybe you feel like you’re a pain when you ask to sample a wine you’re not sure of. Well, get in line. There’s a place in Plymouth that has wine pouring out of machines, for you to sample. There are only a few of these kinds of wine bars in the entire country. How It Started

Uva Wine Bar, located right on Main Street in downtown Plymouth, is an innovative spot dispensing wine samples from around the world. As CBS News Boston recently reported, the concept from owners Katy Thayer and Michelle Manware came after a trip to the Caribbean. The 2 friends from the South Shore discovered the unique concept bar there and thought it was too good to be true. It’s like having the world at your fingertips. Wines from all over the planet just a push of a button away to try.

Katy and Michelle told WBZ TV, “We just kind of looked at each other, and said, ‘We love these machines. We love this concept, our friends love wine.’ We were like, ‘We’re going to do it!” With this system you have the opportunity to try something you likely wouldn’t have. Think of it as high tech tastings. The machines dispense 2 ounce pours for sampling until you find “the one.” No whining here! Every customer at Uva Wine Bar gets a wine card that “controls the wine pouring while keeping their tab,” according to the news station. Enjoy a wide variety of all kinds of wines from reds to rosés and whites.

  • Truro Vineyard

    Located on Cape Cod between the bay and the Atlantic Ocean, Truro Vineyard opened under new ownership in 2007. They are family-owned and operated. The vineyard itself dates back to 1992, however. They produce and offer four different red wines and three white wines. They have a lighthouse wine series, plus special seasonal releases. You can visit Truro Vineyard seven days a week.

  • The Urban Grape Wine Club

    “Located in Boston, the Urban Grape is one of the most successful and award-winning wine stores in America. UG is a Black-owned and woman-owned small business dedicated to building community through beverage,” their website states. They offer a popular wine club, all run out of their Boston location. The wine club comes with a monthly subscription option, where numerous select bottles are shipped right to you. The Urban Grape also has a connoisseur club option for those looking for a deeper knowledge of higher-end wines.

  • City Winery Boston

    City Winery perfectly combines a love of wine with entertainment. This restaurant also serves as a live music venue. They are part of the City Winery chain with similar establishments in other major cities (such as New York and Nashville). They source their grapes from over 30 vineyards around the world. Their food menu also is designed to pair well with the numerous wine options they pour onsite. The Boston City Winery is near the North End and TD Garden. They offer private events, tastings, and full service at their ticketed entertainment shows.
