New Year Resolution Hack

If you want to keep your New Year's resolution, we have a hack!

It's that time of the year when we trade our leftover holiday cookies for kale smoothies. And then promise ourselves we'll finally hit the gym more than once a month.

Ah, the New Year's resolutions –  as likely to stick as a Post-It note in a hurricane.

Let's face it: keeping New Year's resolutions is like trying to teach a cat to tap dance.

Take the classic "get fit" resolution, for instance.

You strut into the gym on January 1st, confident and ready to conquer. What happens? You find  yourself gasping for breath on a treadmill by January 5th, wondering why you thought squats were a good idea in the first place.

And don't even get me started on the resolution to "save money."

You set a budget, swear off online shopping, and suddenly, there's a sale on that thing you didn't know you needed until right now. It's like the universe has a direct line to your wallet, whispering, "Resistance is futile."

Let's not forget the resolution to "eat healthier."

You start the year determined to embrace a diet of quinoa and kale, but then someone mentions pizza, and suddenly, your newfound commitment to leafy greens goes out the window faster than a cat chasing a laser pointer.

Oh, and the resolution to "stress less"?

That's the unicorn of New Year's resolutions. Life throws curveballs like it's auditioning for the World Series, and suddenly, your stress-free bubble bursts.

So, here's the deal, resolution rebels:

There is a New Year Resolution Hack and we are going to help you!

If you want to keep your New Year's resolution, start it NOW.  The idea is if you can stick with it in December, you've got no excuses.  You'll prove to yourself you're capable of it.

That's according to Peloton star Robin Arzón, who's doing her annual "3 for 31 challenge" this month.  That's where you commit to walking 3 miles or doing 30 minutes on a bike every day in December.

She says if you can do it now and stick with it all month then, quote, "how dare you tell yourself" you can't do it the rest of the year too?  In other words, you might prove to yourself that you're more capable than you thought.

We're on Day 3 of the new year . . . is your resolution still intact?

A poll leading up to New Year's found 37% of us were planning to make a resolution this year, and another 17% said they might. Here are the top ten resolutions we made for 2023, according to the poll . . .

10. Learn Something New

Whether it's learning to ski, golf or cook, we all want to learn something new this year. The good news is, there's plenty of time to get started on whatever it is you want to learn.

9. Spend More Time With The Family

Spending more quality time with the family is a great resolution to make and fun to keep. After all, did any body ever wish they spent more time at work on their proverbial death bed? Doubt it.

8. Improve Your Mental Health

For most of us when it comes to our health and resolutions it's all about our physical health. Losing weight and getting in shape, etc. but we can easily neglect our mental health. So, be sure to make that part of your new year, it's just as important as looking good!

7. Pay Down Debt

Having a mountain of debt is one of the most stressful things we deal with and it's also one of the scariest things to think about the ramifications of carrying so much debt. Any financial advisor would tell you to pay it down and avoid adding to it. With interest rates so high it's more important then ever to pay it down, and making extra payments if possible.

6. Try To Be Happier In General

Trying to be happier in general is a worthy resolution, who doesn't want to be happier? Find small things that to do that make you happy, the best news is, some of those things are free.

5. Lose Some Weight

Losing weight is always a top 5 resolution and most of us make for a good reason, we have been through the food gamut starting with Halloween and straight through all the New Year's Eve parties. We tell ourselves that beginning January the diet starts, if this is something you have on your list, you are not alone. Good luck!

4. Eat Better

After all the parties that started around Halloween and through Thanksgiving and Christmas and ending on New Year's Eve, most of us could probably eat better, so let's all try the salad for lunch!

3. Work Out More

There's a reason you're seeing non stop ads on TV or hearing on the radio for health clubs and gyms. January is the busiest month of the year at your local gym. They offer great deals to join them, but joining and using are two different things. I hope you find yourself there a lot!

2. Be Healthier In General

This is a great way to package all the ways to be healthier this year in general. Adding a workout program to a commitment to eat better combined with a desire be happier is a winning combination that is hard to beat.

1. Save Money!

The number one goal is to save money this year, which ties in nicely with the number seven goal of paying down debt. Without paying down your debt it is very hard to save money. One you have paid down your debt then you can really save money. It's a whole lot easier to be happy and healthy knowing you have money in the bank and you will help you sleep better, but don't keep your money in the mattress, there are better places for it!
