‘Hocus Pocus 2’ Set to Film in Rhode Island This Fall
The highly-anticipated sequel to the 1993 movie, ‘Hocus Pocus,’ is set to begin filming in Rhode Island this fall, according to the entertainment news website, the DisInsider.
DisInsider reports that the film is set to begin filming on October 5 under the working title “Candles,” according to a listing in Production Weekly. The listing states that the project is expected to film in multiple locations including Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Los Angeles.
It seems as though some actors have already touched down in the Ocean State ahead of filming. GoLocalProv reported that actors Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick were spotted having lunch in Rhode Island. Sedgwick even confirmed to NY1 that she is there to shoot a feature film with her husband, Bacon. In addition, GoLocalProv stated that they spoke with Yosefa Kornwitz, who manages short term Airbnb rentals through her Providence-based company Blue Fox Property Solutions. Kornwitz said that she was contacted about finding housing for Sarah Jessica Parker and the film crew in Rhode Island.
We previously reported that the sequel was set to film in Salem this summer. However, according to a Facebook post by Boston’s Wicked North Shore, producers ultimately decided against the North Shore as a primary filming location. They stated that there is a still a chance they could film a scene or two in the Salem or Gloucester area. Some scenes for the original movie were filmed in Salem, but the primary location was in California.
‘Hocus Pocus 2’ is based on an aspiring witch named Becca who accidentally summons the Sanderson Sisters on Halloween. The film will see the return of all three Sanderson sisters, with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy reprising their original roles. Thora Birch also recently teased her involvement in the project, as seen in the tweet below. The movie is set to be released in the fall of 2022 on Disney’s streaming platform, Disney+.
