Old Town Trolley Tours Celebrates 40 Years of Boston History
If you’ve been knocking around Boston over the last four decades, chances are you’ve seen the iconic green-and-orange of Old Town Trolley Tours.
I know I have. Hell, I can remember being an undergrad at Northeastern University in the late ’90s and seeing their trolleys rolling up and down Boylston St. when I’d make the trek from campus to Newbury St. to go record shopping.
What I didn’t know is how long the outfit has been doing their thing in Boston. Turns out they just celebrated their 40th anniversary. I know this because an old friend of a friend from the Boston music scene reached out to tell me.
Old Town Trolley Tours: 40 Years in Boston
That’s Josh from Charlestown. He hit me up on Facebook, saying: “I got my start in the music scene, playing in low level bands at the Rat in the mid 90s. I currently work for Old Town Trolley here in the city of Boston, celebrating its 40th year.”
40 years? That’s pretty impressive. I did some digging on their website and found this: “From colonial landmarks to modern marvels, Old Town Trolley Tours has been there to showcase the best of Boston first, making every ride a memorable journey.”
Old Town Trolley Tours: Boston Radio History?
Josh and I had a little back-and-forth and he suggested that I pitch in and add a bit of Boston rock radio to their historical mix as they take their trolleys around the city. I mean, I have WBCN, WFNX, WBOS, WBZ, and WZBC on my resume, after all.
So maybe you’ll hear my voice pop up on a future trolley tour. In the meantime, you can learn more about Boston’s Original Storyteller and book your ride here. And you can follow them on Facebook for more of their 40th anniversary celebration.
