It’s definitely not the tastiest one out there if you ask me, but every state needs an official muffin, right? In 1986, people must have LOVED the taste of the corn muffin, because the school children of Massachusetts petitioned for the corn muffin to be the official muffin of Massachusetts! And on May 27, 1986, the legislature made it official. No seriously, if you go to the MA Government website you can find that in Part1, Title1,Chapter2, Section 28, “The corn muffin shall be the official muffin of the Commonwealth.” Apparently, the corn muffin has always been a staple of New England cooking. I think it’s dry and hard to eat, but it’s not about me. Wouldn’t you have guessed Massachusetts would adopt the cranberry muffin, especially with all of the cranberry bogs on the South Shore?

Besides Massachusetts, there are three other states that have officially adopted a “state muffin.”
