For the 4th of July weekend, we’re bringing back your favorite ’90s one-hit wonders. So of course I’m bringing them back to the 12 Inch Poll.
This all started back in late April, when I ran a poll asking you for the best ’90s one-hit wonder that rocks. The “rocks” part is the important part here. The ’90s were rife with one-hit wonders in a variety of formats, from pop to dance to dance-pop and everything in between. But that’s not what we traffic in here at ROCK 92.9. The likes of Eve 6 and Seven Mary Three were in the mix, and after over 800 votes were tallied, Blind Melon‘s “No Rain” was crowned victorious. Which is ironic, as that one doesn’t really “rock.”
Of course, for as many votes as I received, I got as many gripes about missing songs. So in May, it was ’90s One-Hit Wonders, Part Two. I took the victor from the first round and put it up against about two dozen of your ’90s one-hit suggestions, which ranged from locals like Belly‘s “Feed The Tree” to somewhat-forgotten gems like Failure‘s “Stuck On You.” This time around, it was Hum and “Stars” that took the crown. But yet again, the “you forgot this one!” comments came pouring in, so it was on to Part Three in June. There was a lot of ska and swing this time around, but it was EMF’s “Unbelievable” that came out on top.
This brings us to the 4th of July weekend, where the ’90s one-hit wonders will be your soundtrack here at ROCK 92.9. So listen wherever you go, and get a taste of what you’ll be hearing below. Of course I’ve laid it all out in poll form, so you can tell me which hit is your favorite. Vote, tune in, and enjoy the long weekend!
