The Onion Boston Parody That’s Pretty Much On The Nose
The Onion Boston parody that hit earlier this month is brutal, but it is a prime example of “it’s funny because it’s true.”
The Onion has been delivering top-notch satire for decades now. They began as a weekly print publication in 1988, headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin. They were also a pioneer in getting their satirical news-based comedy online, launching a web edition of their newspaper in 1996. Since then, their media empire has grown and moved to Chicago. You likely follow them on at least one social media platform.
I’m an old-school head when it comes to The Onion. When I was an undergrad at Northeastern University in the mid-to-late 1990’s, you could always grab a copy at the Student Center. I loved the weekly paper so much that, after I graduated, I bought a subscription so I could get it in the mail. I never wanted to miss a column by Smoove B. And I always loved when they made fun of Boston.
The Onion Boston Parody That’s Pretty Much On The Nose
Their latest Boston-centric piece is no exception. Boston Named Best City To Vomit Everywhere is short and sweet and it captures the spirit of a city that feels like it’s constantly overrun by tourists, students, and townies that have had one too many. “Whether you prefer puking your brains out at Fenway Park, the Public Garden, or a quaint neighborhood like Beacon Hill, you’re sure to find the perfect spot in which to drink too much and vomit all over the place.” Brilliant.
Read the full piece here. And while we’re on the subject of drinking too much and causing a ruckus, did you see the video of that Thanksgiving Eve Kowloon brawl? It’s NSFW and TMZ has it here, of course. It’s already become so legendary that Robby Roadsteamer has written a holiday parody song about it, which you can check out here. It’s also extremely NSFW.
