The Geezer Butler Interview That Almost Didn’t Happen
I had a Geezer Butler interview scheduled. Then all hell broke loose and I almost didn’t get to talk to the legend.
I’ll tell you the story, then you can listen to the interview. Tuesday, June 6 was my son Jacob’s 18th birthday. We were up early (as we usually are) to celebrate this milestone with a family breakfast. Then, it was off to school. Jacob was wrapping up his last week at New England Academy and had a field trip planned with the senior class on his birthday. A fine way to celebrate.
As I’m making my way home from dropping the newly-minted 18-year-old off at school, my phone starts blowing up. ROCK 92.9 listeners that listen to Dave & Chuck the Freak on the free ROCK 92.9 app aren’t getting Dave & Chuck. They’re getting “Pinball Wizard” by The Who. On repeat. And since I’m the Program Director, it’s my job to find out why. And to fix it.
So here I am, making phone calls, sending emails, trying to figure out what the hell is going on. Quite the crash from the high of celebrating my oldest son’s 18th birthday. I finally got things fixed; I won’t bore you with the details of how or why. But now I’m all sideways. I have a show to prep: I’m on the air from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. after all. So I’m head-down in the studio and I don’t see the phone ringing.

Thankfully, my thorough (and forgiving) press contact was persistent and was able to get a hold of me. So I was able to chat with Geezer about his new book Into the Void: From Birth to Black Sabbath―And Beyond. We talked a ton about early Black Sabbath, too. We just didn’t talk about Ozzy.
