It finally happened. Metallica at Gillette, Summer of ’24. And ROCK 92.9 had eyes and ears at Gillette Stadium covering both nights.

The shows were a long time coming. Announced back in November of 2022, we doled out our first pair of free tickets over 18 months ago. The winning continued with our Summer of ROCK. Congrats to those of you who won your way in to both shows.

Scoring that spot at both shows was key, since every M72 Tour stop is a No Repeat Weekend. “2 Nights, 2 Different Sets, 2 Different Opening Acts, in the Round,” as the band is billing it. An even bigger deal than Boston Calling 2022.

Metallica at Gillette: Friday

The No Repeat Weekend got underway on Friday, August 2 at Gillette. Our own Hardy was in the house to take it all in. He wasn’t able to catch opening acts Mammoth WVH or Pantera, but my buddy Mike, who was also there, said Pantera was in top form.

Hardy said the same of Metallica. Frontman James Hetfield was in top vocal form, leading the metal festivities like some sort of mad conductor. Hardy spoke highly of Lars‘ energy, too. And the Friday setlist was a Metallica fan’s dream. Peep it here.

Metallica at Gillette: Sunday

Mother Nature got a little too metal in the evening, so the Sunday, August 4 show had a rain delay. Opener Ice Nine Kills was eighty-sixed, and Five Finger Death Punch played an abbreviated set to make time for the full Metallica experience.

It was another top-tier setlist, featuring tracks new and old, and an impromptu “Sweet Caroline” cover. Ace photog Greg Caparell grabbed some great images from Friday, which you can see below. Check out his Instagram for more. Our IG has some Metallica at Gillette goodies, too.
