After all, with Boston’s hilarious history stemming from our rich, decades-long comedy scene, this latest Top 10 placing should come as no surprise. That’s right: Boston is Number One on a recent list of Funniest Cities in America. This recent list that Massachusetts landed on, however, is a bit different. It’s from Gambling.com and it’s called Which States Are the Biggest Jokers? So how, exactly, does one determine what makes a state the “biggest joker” or the residents of said state the “biggest jokers?” The rankers gave each state a “Joker Score” which topped out at 100 points. The criteria considered? Google Interest Score, Comedy Club Score, Comedy Acts Score, and Comedy Meetups Score. You can dig into the data and how they weighed everything here.

So where did the Commonwealth end up? At lucky No. 13. We like to joke, we like to hear other people joke, and we’re game for a good prank, too. Which brings us back around to April Fool’s Day and this PSA: If you’re going to pull a prank on someone, make sure they have the sense of humor to appreciate it. And make sure it’s not mean. Mean isn’t funny. Period.
