What's the all-time greatest driving song? We nominate "Runnin' Down a Dream."

“It was a beautiful day, the sun beat down I had the radio on, I was drivin'” “Runnin’ Down A Dream” from Tom Petty’s 1989 solo debut Full Moon Fever will forever be the quintessential driving song. I was 12 years old when the album dropped. My parents picked it up on cassette, and it was a staple in the tape deck in my dad’s GMC Jimmy that year and for years to come.
Full Moon Fever soundtracked our winter drives to Campton, NH to play in the snow at my Great Uncle Eddie’s chalet. It soundtracked our summer trips to Laconia to swim in Crystal lake. And every time “Runnin’ Down A Dream” came on, my mom would turn up the volume just a little. She always called it, much to my chagrin, “The Driving Song.” That bothered the hell out of me. Which, of course, she knew. Now, as a parent myself, I keep track of the things that miff my own kids and exploit them at every opportunity.
The Best Driving Songs: 12-Inch Poll
But what of the other classics you crank when you’re on the road? I asked and you answered, coming through with some great suggestions. I’ve made them part of my list of 12 below, peppering in a few that you might have forgotten. Take a scroll through, picture the one that would have you cranking the volume up and cranking your windows down (weather permitting), then cast your vote.
What’s that? Your favorite driving song is missing? No worries. Hit the ROCK 92.9 Facebook or Twitter and throw it in the mix there. Even if it’s a little offbeat, like Hardy’s (he’s the guy who picked Son Volt).
