Happy Hanukkah! Here’s a short playlist of 8 Hanukkah songs that rock to take you through the eight crazy nights.
But before we dive into my festive picks, let’s take a moment to check in on Dave Grohl. If you missed it, Dave and his seasonal partner in crime, Greg Kurstin, have joined forces for the third straight year for their Hanukkah Sessions. As Billboard reported earlier this month, the pair hosted their very first live installment of the Hanukkah Sessions in L.A. earlier this month.
The first of those performances has now hit the web, and it’s a cover of “Spinning Wheel” by Blood, Sweat and Tears. But Dave and Greg aren’t handling vocals on this one. It’s the one and only Judd Apatow delivering the vocal with a gritty growl. And of course, since it’s a Blood, Sweat and Tears tune, there’s a horn section. Watch the performance here.
We’ll be keeping tabs all week on the rest of the Hanukkah Sessions performances as they go live. In the meantime, take a spin through our 8 Crazy Nights in Rock History. Ozzy Osbourne, Axl Rose, and Nikki Sixx are all in the mix. Some of the stories you probably remember, some you might have forgotten.
8 Hanukkah Songs That Rock
Now, on to my list. I love holiday music. I have playlists with hundreds and hundreds of holiday songs and probably close to a hundred holiday albums that I break out every December. I scrolled through one of those playlists and plucked out 8 Hanukkah-themed tunes. I’ve placed them all in my musical menorah and I’m lighting the wicks below.
So take a dreidel-spin through and watch this space for more holiday-themed playlists that I’ll share throughout the holiday season. I’m thinking Christmas songs by Boston artists will be next on my list.
