They get paid in concert t-shirts.

It’s Adam 12 once again turning they keyboard over to my 14-year-old, Kade. They have a Smashing Pumpkins review from the TD Garden show.

Ughhh. Why are you making me do this?

It’s currently 10:47 at night as I am writing this article; my dad and I just left the Smashing Pumpkins concert, and he’s yelling at me about being “on deadline.” Well, since I’m being forced to write, might as well write about the concert like I’m supposed to. It was, in a word, spectacular! The Smashing Pumpkins, I mean, but Jane’s Addiction was pretty great too (no offense to any band members or fans reading this).

We arrived at the Garden around 7:30, shortly after the first opening act ended, so my dad could see Jane’s Addiction. Now, I am not personally a fan of Jane’s (in case you couldn’t tell), just because of Perry Farrell’s voice and the lyrics and… well, you get the idea. I really enjoyed “Been Caught Stealing,” though; it’s really the only song of theirs I like. Even though I’m not a huge fan, I could still appreciate the performance. We had balcony seats, so we could watch how Perry commandeered the stage and it was a lot of fun to watch one person fill up the whole room. Altogether, Jane’s Addiction was pretty awesome!

Then, after a break, the Smashing Pumpkins took the stage. If I’m being completely honest, I really only got into the band because my dad got me a ticket to the concert and I kind of had to listen to them, so I came into the Garden half-knowing roughly ten songs, but I knew what I wanted to hear. When they started playing, it was like a bomb had gone off: cheers coming from everywhere, power chords emanating from the stage, lights flashing all over the place. Even from the balcony, it was like we were right there with them; the sound quality was amazing!

I love going to concerts because I love how it feels; vibrations thrumming up from wherever your body is touching the ground, and this concert was 100% making that happen. They played “Empires” to open, followed by “Bullet With Butterfly Wings,” “Today,” and “We Only Come Out at Night.” All songs I like! Like I said before, I’m a bit of a Pumpkins newbie, so it was nice that they opened with songs I knew. Even as they continued playing songs I didn’t know as well, it was still a fire performance, especially since they followed it up with more songs I love, like “Beguiled,” which is my favorite song of theirs.

We left during “Silverfuck” because we decided that “Disarm” and “Harmageddon” weren’t worth the wait on a school night. So that’s my Smashing Pumpkins review. As I stated previously, it was an amazing show, and I’m so glad I was able to go! Thanks to my dad for taking me, but thanks for nothing for making me write this at 11:00 at night.
