Cheap Trick, Tina Turner Recordings Added to National Recording Registry
Cheap Trick and Tina Turner are among a select group of artists whose recordings are now part of the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry.
The Library of Congress released its list of new recordings added to the National Recording Registry, and it features Cheap Trick’s iconic 1978 live album Cheap Trick at Budokan and Turner’s landmark 1984 album Private Dancer. Also part of this year’s additions to the National Recording Registry is the 1964 original Broadway cast recording of Fiddler on the Roof, Dusty Springfield’s 1969 album Dusty in Memphis, Dr. Dre’s 1992 album The Chronic and Whitney Houston’s 1992 recording of “I Will Always Love You.”
In a statement on the new additions to the National Recording Registry, Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden said, “The National Recording Registry is the evolving playlist of the American soundscape. It reflects moments in history captured through the voices and sounds of the time. We received over 800 nominations this year for culturally, historically or aesthetically significant recordings to add to the registry. As genres and formats continue to expand, the Library of Congress is committed to working with our many partners to preserve the sounds that have touched our hearts and shaped our culture.”
