What Dumb Thing Did a Scam Caller Pretending to Be a Deputy Do?
There’s a phone scam in Washington state where someone is pretending to be Sergeant Darren Moss from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
The scammer is telling people that there is a warrant out for their arrest in an attempt to scam money. The calls are so common that they even accidentally called the REAL Sergeant Darren Moss.

Remember no police officer, judge, or any public official will ask you for money over the phone to pay a fine.
Now I gotta go back and see why this guy won’t return my call.

If you’re ever curious if a call is legit, law enforcement says to call the agency’s mainline and ask to speak to the officer. Any public official will never ask you for money or gift cards over the phone.
