The Best Burger in Massachusetts is Sold at a Fish Market?
It’s been 4 days since I ate that burger and I can’t… stop… thinking about it. You know a hamburger is really good when you eat it, then that night when you lay your head to sleep on your pillow it’s all you can think about. I almost feel guilty for loving that burger so much.
Who has the best burger in Massachusetts? I ain’t touching that or making that claim here. BUT – I will confidently say that this fish market on the South Shore definitely has a hamburger that is in contention for that best burger in Massachusetts title.
A Best Burger in Massachusetts Contender… served at a Fish Market?!?
Well to be fair, it’s a former fish market. But it’s a hell of a story. The restaurant with the incredible burger is Salty Days Fish in Cohasset.
The fish market opened in Hingham a few years ago. It was opened by four lifelong friends who decided to open the market on a whim. I personally bought fish here many times – the quality was always excellent. As time went on though, they realized the prepared foods they were cranking out of the fish market were outpacing fish sales. They served up amazing poke bowls and really cool beach lunch boxes, complete with a lobster roll, chips, and a personal sized key lime pie. Damn those things were fun and super tasty!
Eventually they realized that they should pivot (there’s an overused term of the past few years, huh?) and switch focus from fish market to restaurant, which they did fairly recently. I’ve gotten to know Sean, one of the owners, and this past Friday my wife and I tried it out for a date night and to make a little video of the restaurant. When I asked Sean what we should order, he said the burgers are super popular so “I’ll send one right over.” Heck of a guy, that Sean.
I was a bit skeptical of a fish restaurant (and former fish market) serving up a good burger – I was wrong with my skepticism. The burger surpassed Sean’s hype. I’m not a huge topping guy… unless it’s meant to be there. This burger had a bunch of toppings and sauce but… it all belonged there. It was a lovely hamburger. And the restaurant has a great vibe. I’m not getting any kickbacks for writing any of this by the way. I’m just a dude who loves food, who can’t freaking stop thinking about a hamburger. It’s my love story.
Anyway, the burger is called the SD Smash Burger. I linked the menu right there so you can go read more about it if you choose. But don’t worry about that. Just go. Salty Days Cohasset. And nom nom nom away at that burger. Then don’t even worry about thanking me for the reco. You’ll just be reminding me about that burger and I’ll never stop thinking about it. So please just let me be. Oh and here’s that video I made while at Salty Days in case you’d like to check it out featuring “the burger.” *drool face emoji*
