Nickelback Documentary Getting a Theatrical Release
Nickelback will see their documentary film get a grand release in theaters worldwide this March.
Hate to Love: Nickelback will screen in select theaters on March 27 and 30. Tickets for the screenings go on sale on Thursday, February 22. Fans can sign up for updates regarding screening locations and more at NickelbackFilm.com.
The documentary had its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September. Helmed by Leigh Brooks, Hate to Love: Nickelback explores the band’s history and the infamous amount of hate they have received over the years.
Per the trailer, the film’s synopsis reads, “Nickelback is one of the most successful acts in music history — they’re also the number one band haters love to hate. This intimate portrait surveys the Canadian stadium rockers’ rollercoaster career.”
While the documentary addresses the hate the band has received, Nickelback is done talking about that unique phenomenon. In fact, they’re so done that they’re going to shut down an interview moving forward that brings it up.
Frontman Chad Kroeger touched on this topic in an interview with People while at TIFF in September. He explains that since there’s a documentary exploring the hatred of Nickelback, there’s no reason to talk about it anymore.
“We made a documentary, everybody can watch it. And now, from this day forward, if anybody asks that question in the press, it’s like that’s the end of the interview,” said Kroeger.
Reminder: You’re Probably Pronouncing Chad Kroeger’s Name Wrong
This news came out nearly two years ago, and frankly, we’re still not over it. In a September 2022 appearance on Loudwire Nights, Kroeger set the record straight on how to pronounce his last name. Apparently, it’s “Kru-ger,” like the Nightmare on Elm Street villain and not “Kro-ger,” like the popular grocery store chain.
When asked why he’s never corrected anyone when they mispronounced his surname, Kroeger said, “I never get time … It gets so far in [to the interview] by time I get to say something…If I just stop and go, ‘Actually, it’s ‘Kru-ger’, I’m gonna look like such a [expletive].”
