Friendly’s Ice Cream: The Old Favorites are Alive and Well
Sometimes, only Friendly’s ice cream will satisfy that summertime craving. Thankfully, you can still get yours here and there.
I know this firsthand. Over the weekend, I made my way west on the Mass Pike to pick up my youngest from the first session of their month-long summer camp. They’re at The Story School, which is out in Charlton. Excellent summer camp, FYI. I don’t mind the hour-and-fifteen-minute drive, because there’s a reward waiting for me at pickup: lunch and ice cream sundaes at the Friendly’s in Auburn.
And the reward was sweet. We rolled into Friendly’s around 12:30 and ended up being part of the lunch rush. I can’t tell you how exiting that was! It brought back memories of being a kid and my Nana taking me to Friendly’s on a Friday night. She’d get a Fishamajig, I’d get a grilled cheese, and sometimes my Uncle would come out and say hi, even though it was always busy.

Now it’s my kids ordering the grilled cheese sandwiches. Or, Ultimate Grilled Cheese Supermelts, nowadays. I had a BLT and subbed onion rings in for my fries, since my kids had regular fries and waffle fries on their plates. My youngest went old-school with the Monster Mash Happy Ending Sundae. His older brother went big with Ultimate Cookies n’ Cream. I had a hot fudge sundae.
And the service was amazing. Shouts to the staff at the Auburn Friendly’s, who were working hard and serving everyone with a smile. Life’s hard these days for a lot of us. It’s reassuring to know that Friendly’s is still serving tasty comfort food and old-fashioned ice cream for an affordable price, just like they always have. Take a scroll through my list below if you’d like to find one near you.
PSA: @Friendlys is alive & well in Auburn. Excellent service, food, and ice cream. Just like you remember.
