Why is Iron Maiden in a Legal Battle with a Lingerie Brand?
Iron Maiden is reportedly in a legal battle with the lingerie brand called Maiden Wear.
Per Complete Music Update, the brand — which sells a variety of items including bras, panties, corsets and shapewear — is trying to file a trademark for its name. Iron Maiden’s reps, however, are stepping in to try and stop the Maiden Wear trademark. Why? The metal icons own the “Iron Maiden” trademark for a variety of apparel categories.
The outlet cites a filing from Iron Maiden’s reps, which states, “The dominant term in applicant’s Maiden Wear mark is Maiden and therefore the mark is confusingly similar in appearance and connotation to opposer’s Iron Maiden mark.”
Maiden’s legal reps further note, “Thus, applicant’s Maiden Wear mark, when used in connection with the goods described in the Maiden Wear application, is likely to deceive or cause consumer confusion or mistake among members of the public and potential purchasers as to the source, sponsorship or composition of applicant’s goods in relation to opposer’s goods. Such confusion will damage opposer and injure its reputation in the trade and with the public.”
As of publishing, this legal matter is ongoing.
