Fenway Park will not welcome fans in 2020

Whatever slim hope the Boston Red Sox had of welcoming fans to Fenway Park in 2020 was put to bed on Tuesday, as the state has told the team that their doors will have to remained closed to the general public through September.
The state’s decision, which was first reported by The Boston Sports Journal’s Sean McAdam, was confirmed in a statement released by Red Sox president Sam Kennedy.
“While we were hopeful fans would be able to return to Fenway at some point this season, we agree that now is not the right time, given the state of the virus around the country,” Kennedy’s statement read. “We remain grateful to our local officials for their leadership and guidance, and appreciate the ongoing support of our fans throughout this difficult period.”
The state’s decision regarding Fenway came the same day as their decision to prohibit fans from attending Gillette Stadium, the home of the New England Patriots and New England Revolution, through September.
But it’s unlikely that fans are banging down doors to get into Fenway this season, as the Red Sox began Tuesday as the worst team in the American League, at 6-17, and are the second-worst team in baseball, ahead of only the 4-14 Pittsburgh Pirates.
