David Gilmour Releasing First New Song in Five Years on June 25
David Gilmour will be releasing a new song titled “Yes, I Have Ghosts” on June 25, marking the first piece of new music from the guitar legend since his 2015 album Rattle That Lock.
Per Prog, the track is part of the audiobook for A Theater for Dreamers, which was written by Gilmour’s wife, Polly Samson. The “Yes, I Have Ghosts” single, which was co-written by Samson, will be released a week before the A Theater for Dreamers audiobook recording, which will also feature some additional new music from Gilmour. Whether or not that music is instrumental or otherwise is not noted.
In a statement, Gilmour said, “Polly’s vivid and poetic writing, coupled with her very natural narration voice, made joining forces to produce the audio version of ‘A Theatre For Dreamers’ a fantastic and fulfilling experience.”
Gilmour continued, “The audiobook format has so much untapped potential, and I am surprised more musicians have not creatively collaborated with authors, narrators, and audiobook producers in this way before. The two worlds seem to seamlessly link, and music can really help to bring audiobooks to life in unexpected new ways. ”
He concluded, “We were also lucky to have our daughter Romany in lockdown with us to contribute harp and additional vocals. I am really pleased and proud of how Polly’s words and my music have entwined.”
