Karen Read And John O’Keefe doc is coming. A 3 part docuseries surrounding the death of Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe is coming to Netflix. The announcement was made on July 19 just three days before the court is set to resume for a hearing. This new hearing that is taking place today (Monday) will determine if and when a new trial will be held. The prosecution is planning on revealing to the court whether or not it intends to retry Karen Read for John O’Keefe’s murder. The court will also reportedly respond to numerous motions filed by the defense and the prosecution in regards to multiple jurors coming forward saying they unanimously voted to acquit Karen on 2 of the 3 major charges.
The death of John O’Keefe
John O’Keefe passed away on January 29, 2022. He was found unresponsive in front of a home in Canton, MA. Events leading up to John O’Keefe’s death were documented in a trial that played out for approximately 2 months. A jury told the judge that it was unable to reach a unanimous verdict on all of the charges against Karen Read which included: manslaughter, motor vehicle homicide, and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision causing death.

According to co-directors of the series, Danielle Johnson and Rob Miller: “The team feels immensely privileged to be bringing this important series to a Netflix global audience,. It is a case that has garnered a huge amount of public attention and has far-reaching implications. We are also mindful that this is a hugely sensitive case and we are determined to treat all those involved with the respect and consideration they deserve.” It will be a 3 part series and is currently in production. It will document the days leading up to John’s death. No release date has been set.
