Thrive Music Festival 2024 Brings Big Local Names to Bridgewater

The inaugural Thrive Music Festival is set to see out the summer of 2024 with some great local music for a good local cause.

Straight from the Facebook event page, “Thrive aims to create a positive experience for our community to come together in support of veterans, first responders, and their families. (It’s) a chance to get together, enjoy being in community, and THRIVE while listening to amazing live music.”

It continues on the website: “By attending, you’re supporting Fire For Effect Foundation Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring and empowering veterans, first responders, and their families. Get ready to dance, sing, and make a difference!”

Thrive Music Festival: When?

Thrive is a two-day festival taking place on Saturday, September 20th and Sunday, September 21st. Technically, it’s a summer festival, as that’s the last official weekend of the summer of 2024. The autumnal equinox is on Sunday, September 22nd.

Thrive Music Festival: Where?

The Festival takes place at The Launch, 80 Spring St. in Bridgewater. That’s just a few miles from 495 and a stone’s throw from Bridgewater State University. Live music runs from 5-11 p.m. on Friday and 12-11 p.m. on Saturday. Gates open a half-hour before the music starts.

The lineup is stacked with great local acts spread across two stages. The Adam Ezra Group headlines the Friday festivities, with GA-20 topping the Saturday bill. Don’t miss Air Traffic Controller on the Main Stage on Friday. They’re a favorite of mine.

5 Rad Bands That Rocked Yo Gabba Gabba! Back in the Day

With the return of the classic kid’s show, here’s a short list of Yo Gabba Gabba bands that rocked a little harder than the rest.

Yo Gabba Gabba! debuted in August of 2007. The children’s musical TV series followed DJ Lance Rock and his five costumed toy friends come to life. The show lasted for four seasons, spread out over eight years, wrapping in November of 2015.

Of course, fans since then have been able to revel in the show’s original run on YouTube. We’ll get into some of those classic clips below. But first, a bit of news on the recent return of Yo Gabba Gabba!, spiffed up for Gen Alpha.

Yo Gabba Gabba Bands: Back For 2024

Top-notch music blog Stereogum recently shared this report on the debut of Yo Gabba Gabbaland!, a new series inspired by the original Yo Gabba Gabba! Think along the lines of how Aqua Teen Hunger Force spun off of itself a few times over the years.

Yo Gabba Gabbaland! stars Dance Moms star Kamryn Smith as new host Kammy Kam, alongside all the monsters from the original series. The 10-episode series just debuted on Apple TV+, and you can expect a new slate of musical guests.

While we wait to see what big names pop up on Yo Gabba Gabbaland!, let’s look back at some of the standout musical moments on Yo Gabba Gabba! I’ll be honest, even though my kiddos were the right age at the time, they never got into the show.

Maybe this list will spur their interest. And if you were a regular viewer, maybe it will take you back. I’ve pulled out five Super Music Friends Show segments that feature Yo Gabba Gabba bands that rock, three of which you hear on the regular on ROCK 92.9.

  • Jimmy Eat World

    The Mesa, AZ emo titans (just don’t call them emo) make a cameo in Season 2. The episode is Animals, and their song is called “Beautiful Day.” No, it’s not a U2 cover.

  • The Killers

    Who better to show kids the dazzling stars of the cosmos than the glitzy, glamourous Killers? Their “Spaceship Adventure” comes from the Adventure episode in Season 3.

  • Taking Back Sunday

    Here’s a band that’s OK with being called emo. Taking Back Sunday also make an appearance in Yo Gabba Gabba! Season 2, singing about how “We All Love Our Pets.”

  • Weezer

    How the hell did it take Weezer three whole seasons to make it onto Yo Gabba Gabba!? They should have been playing “All My Friends Are Insects” on Episode 1 of Season 1!

  • Rocket from the Crypt

    San Diego legends Rocket from the Crypt brought things full circle in it’s final season. Their punk energy mirrored the Ramones, who’s “Gabba Gabba Hey” inspired the show’s name. And the Swami?
