Massachusetts: Best Places To Get Tomato Soup For The Soul
Tomato soup has become somewhat of a broad category with different variations widely available. Here, we’ll focus on a few of the best places to get tomato soup around the Boston area.
This past week, I’ve been battling with my old friend the flu. The good news is that my appetite was not completely gone, and the only thing I was in the mood for was soup. This was in part to coat my incredibly sore throat and try to gain some resemblance of a voice back. In addition, there was a comfort to having soup for literally two or three meals per day, even though it was not cold outside.
This certainly got me thinking about one particular bowl that stands above the rest.
4 Of The Best Places To Get Tomato Soup
I must have had some sort of subconscious premonition. On a quick grocery trip early in the week to pick up one dinner item, I grabbed four packs of Panera’s tomato soup at check-out. Little did I know a few hours later, I would start to crack them open, and that would become my primary meal for the rest of the week. Panera Bread certainly isn’t a surprising answer here, but their creamy tomato soup is consistently great. It makes the cut here because it is easily accessible whether you are visiting one of their locations or grabbing the to-go pints that are now at grocery stores. The bonus to ordering in-restaurant is that you get slice of their sourdough bread with it.
Tatte Bakeries in Boston also cook up a fantastic tomato soup. They too, have multiple locations in and around Boston. Their tomato basil is a bit lighter but always soothing. It, too, is served with a roll. As you can see, the theme here so far is pinpointed places where you can easily grab yourself a bowl.
However, there are two places to point out where you may require a little more effort to go seek and find. Don’t sleep on Flour Bakery. They have three locations around the city, but don’t always have the tomato soup. It’s understandable to be going there for a fresh baked cookie or scone, but if you ask about the soup specials and the response is tomato you won’t be disappointed.
Lastly, the tomato soup at Morton’s steakhouse is fantastic. Depending upon which location you go to, it too is not always available or thought of. Their lobster bisque is also quite tasty, but what I like about their tomato soup is that a cup is light enough to just get the meal going and not fill you up before the steak or entrée. It’s also sometimes on the happy hour menu, which pair perfectly with pulling a stool up to the great bar at Morton’s.
