MSPCA ‘Purranormal Cativity’ Event Waives Adoption Fees on Black Cats
With spooky season upon us, some cats with an unfortunate bad rap are looking for happy, loving homes. Fortunately, the MSPCA is offering assistance for black cats and other kitties to find their fur-ever homes.
From October 1-4, all four MSPCA adoption centers will be waiving their adoption fees on black cats and other overlooked cats. All cats with waived adoption fees are marked with a star over at MSPCA.org.
MSPCA Vice President of Animal Protection Mike Kieley told Patch.com, “This season tends to evoke more of these dangerous misconceptions, which often lead to worse outcomes for cats. So, we want to get out there loudly and early to tell people the truth: Black cats are equally deserving of love as any other animals in shelters, and that remains true regardless of the time of year.”
This event will also free up space at MSPCA adoption centers for animals impacted by Hurricane Helene. Kieley further noted, “We know that a lot of shelters in areas we regularly work with, like Florida and South Carolina, will be impacted, and we want to be [able] to help. In order to do that, we need to find homes now for some of the cats that tend to stay in our shelters longer.”

Salem Haunted Happenings Grand Parade Among Best Halloween Parades in the U.S.
The Salem Haunted Happenings Grand Parade in Salem, Mass. has been named one of the ten best Halloween parades in the United States.
The parade was included in a 10-best list from the travel blog Airport Parking Reservations. The blog boasted the Salem Grand Parade’s “family-friendly pageantry, music, and enthusiasm from thousands of attendees.” It also touted the parade’s sensory-friendly area.
Of course, considering Salem’s history with the Witch Trials, Halloween is a big deal for the city. Much of the holiday fun kicks off with the Salem Haunted Happenings Grand Parade, which takes place on the first Thursday of October. This year, the parade falls on October 3 and will begin at 6:30 PM. An estimated 15,000 people are expected to attend the event.
