This South Shore Street Is Lined With The Best Beachside Restaurants
With Memorial Day weekend now in the rearview mirror, we’ve officially made it to beach season. As someone who leans heavily into this season, I couldn’t help but notice this street along the south shore that is filled with the best beachside restaurants.
We’re taking a ride past the harbor and going further down the strip of the Massachusetts coast to the town of Hull and Nantasket beach. If you haven’t been there, it has a chill, island-like vibe.
The beach goes for over six miles down the stretch. It’s filled with picturesque rock walls, and the ocean delivers as a great spot for surfing some Atlantic waves. Nantasket Avenue technically connects to Hull Shore Drive. By name, they are two streets, but you can drive straight down the road and see the beach on one side and rows of intriguing establishments out the other window.
Here Are Some Of The Best Beachside Restaurants In Hull
For those who have never been, let me clarify. You do have to cross the narrow street to get from the beach to these restaurants. So, although none of them allow you to have your feet in the sand while you eat, they do contain perfect water views and many are also open-air.
To start, we will pull into the restaurant that seems to be the centerpiece of the street. The Parrot is located at 1 Hull Shore Drive. This, of course, is waterfront and offers a first-floor level that has a bar. It’s essentially open air with the windows and doors raised in the nice weather. Then, the top floor is all outdoor seating with the deck overlooking the beach. You’ll grab great sandwiches, salads, and seafood entrees here.
A few doors down on the left you will find Daddy’s Beach Club at 280 Nantasket Ave. Daddy’s is a pub-style establishment that also has retractable windows at the front. They are well known for their thin-crust pizza and great draft beer selection. In the middle of the restaurant, there’s a space for live music, and there are performers there regularly during the summer.
If you want one of the best bowls of authentic clam chowder, then Schooner’s has you covered. This, too, just requires you to cross the street from the beach.
Moving further down the strip, more towards the beginning of the street, you will arrive at one of the newest neighborhood additions. South Shore Taco Guy at 165 Nantasket Ave is more of a fast food style joint (it’s just like ordering at Chipotle). While they do have three or four small tables inside, this is more of a to-go-style restaurant. The boardwalk along Nantasket does have a bunch of picnic tables. South Shore Taco Guy has delicious tacos, burritos, bowls, and nachos.
Finally, let’s finish at a place where you would start your day. Toast, located at 121 Nantasket Ave is your classic local community breakfast spot. Their combo platters are some of the best deals in town in terms of the amount of food you get.
Honorable Mention
There are still so many more. Again, all are walkable. The Tipsy Tuna is a great location for outdoor dining where the tables stare directly at the ocean. There’s a beer garden in the works down at Paragon where you will also find a carousel and mini golf course. If you want to venture back one street behind Nantasket Ave, Jake’s seafood, which is on a harbor inlet, serves arguably the freshest local seafood in town.
