Margaritaville Comes To Massachusetts
Is it time for a Margaritaville in Massachusetts? We think so. It was only two months ago that the world was shocked with the news of the passing of the iconic Jimmy Buffett.
At a young 76, it was fitting that Jimmy left us on the long party weekend of Labor Day, September 1, 2023.
Touching Tribute Continues Legacy
I believe it was Jimmy’s daughter Delaney that alluded that somehow her Dad is not one to rest in peace, suggesting that even in death, he will always be alive forever in our hearts, minds and the great beyond.
Buffetworld.com shared her touching tribute from her Twitter (Now Z) account:
I knew my dad my whole life, but in his final days, I saw who he was: a man whose spirit could not be broken. He had a deep admiration for the people he worked with, and he never took himself too seriously, which is probably what I loved most about him.
Last Rhode Island Performance
On July 12, I reported a delightful, but almost shocking visit that Jimmy made to Rhode Island, surprising the crowd during a Mac McAnally concert:
While singing the Jimmy hit “5 O’clock Somewhere” Mac began to sing the line: What would Jimmy Do? At that exact moment, before a stunned concert crowd, OUT WALKS JIMMY BUFFETT, to continue singing HIS SONG!!! As you can imagine, people in the audience were pinching themselves, wondering if they had TOO MUCH TO DRINK! How can it be? Jimmy Buffett, TEN FEET AWAY? It was true!
The July holiday weekend found Jimmy resting in Long Island. Reportedly, Jimmy has a place in Sag Harbor. So, when he heard about his pal Mac, playing across Long Island Sound, what did he do? Jimmy, a licensed pilot, hopped into his plane, and piloted, himself to Rhode Island, landing in Newport.
That’s what I call a friend. It was reportedly his LAST performance.
Margaritaville In Massachusetts
Right as we were finishing our last dozen peanut butter cups on Halloween, Boston honored Jimmy Buffett. Well, sort of.
What better place to toast a Margarita with friends, family and of course parrot heads, than Faneuil Hall?
According to NBC 10:
Three years ago, it was reported that a legendary singer-songwriter was opening a location of his restaurant chain in Boston, and now we have learned it has debuted, though it opened two months after he passed away.
Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville is now open at Faneuil Hall, moving into the space that had once been home to McCormick & Schmick’s.
Rest in peace, Jimmy. Thank you. Boston will be raising our glass of Margarita’s to you.
