Massachusetts Has A Maximalist Interior Design Preference
Interior and exterior home renovations have been highly popular in the past three years. Architectural Digest reported that over half of homeowners have decorated the inside of their homes since 2021. Architectural Digest has analyzed the most popular design trends, and in Massachusetts, the maximalist style was the most common.
“Maximalism is more about design and features colors, shapes, tones, and textures to create an over-the-top space,” The Spruce explains. It’s common to find wallpaper-decorated rooms filled with higher-end furniture in this type of design.
To determine which interior design trend is most popular in each state, Architectural Digest analyzed Google trends data. As a result, they were able to identify which states have moved towards industrial, maximalist, French country or other styles.
“In the Northeast, there is a three-way tie in search interest for cottagecore, maximalist, and shabby chic interior design trends.” Architectural Design explained about what they found to be most popular in the region. 11 states are aligned to the industrial trend. This made it the most popular among the five options.
Massachusetts = A Maximalist State Of Mind
Joining the Bay State in this trend is Arizona, California, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Maryland. Furthermore, Boston made the list of cities most obsessed with minimalism style.
Boston Real Estate found there has been a shift in interest in recent years in terms of how residents are decorating their city spaces. A more maximalist style allows people to decorate in a way that is more self-expressive and representative of who they are.
This past summer, Homes and Gardens featured interior design professional Liz Caan’s Boston home and called it a “maximalist paradise.” You can view examples of this style here, featuring Caan’s bright-colored furniture and Gucci wallpaper. Home and Gardens also describes these Massachusetts design trends as a “maximalist carnival of color, pattern and curiosity.”
Massachusetts: Local Street Art Is Getting National Exposure
A New Bedford, Massachusetts street art display is now getting national attention by being published in a book by Simon & Schuster.
On the Wall Posters: Street Art is described as a one-of-a-kind collection of posters, all from local artists. This book showcases 30 graffiti and street mural-inspired wall posters. Furthermore, it is all from the local mural art project, Superflat NB.
Founded in 2017, Superflat NB works directly with New Bedford’s residents and other artists around the world. Together, they are creating transformative public art. The collection of posters they will be publishing into a colorful book will bring these art pieces to life. In fact, you can now insert them right into your home.
What Superflat means
Japanese contemporary artist, “Takashi Murakami coined the term to express spatial compression and the blending of high and low art in his own work.” Superflat NB explains via their website. “Surperflat NB will provide access to the arts by directly engaging New Bedford’s youth, artists, and its residents in the ideation and creation of transformative public art through the traditions of mural-making,” they conclude. Their aim is to revitalize the city of New Bedford by inspiring youth with this creative outlet. In addition, their murals will bring national artists’ work into the community.
Book Introduction
“Today, street art is used worldwide for self-expression and to add character to unexpected places,” the book quotes. What can you expect to find when you crack open this poster book?
