Massachusetts Is In Desperate Need Of Lifeguards And You Won’t Believe The Pay!
Lifeguards Wanted!!
If you know someone that is looking for a great summer job, than this might be perfect and pay really well. The Bay State is in need of lifeguards this summer for state beaches and pools. There’s a real shortage this year so the need is immediate.
I used to be a lifeguard back in my high school and Navy days and found it to be a great way to make good money and maybe do something that could save a life. If I recall, it was one of the best jobs I had back in the day. Most of my jobs were at local pools filled with families escaping the hot summer days and splashing around for hours and me telling the kids at least 100 times a day, “No Running Please!” Of course, at that time my hourly wage was something like 3 bucks if I can remember correctly.
Things have changed
How does $22 to $27 an hour sound? Yup, that’s the pay range the state is offering this year, plus there might be signing bonus’s for select areas. That is around a $1000 a week, and for a high schooler or college student very good money.
Here’s the scoop from the DCR
- The details: The state is offering a $22-an-hour starting wage for lifeguards — and up to $27-an-hour for pool and beach managers. That comes with $500 sign-on bonuses for those who submit their applications by May 1 and up to $750 in additional bonuses for those willing to work through late summer. DCR is also offering free training and certification courses to those who commit to lifeguard for the agency.
- Interested? The department opened the application window for lifeguard positions in all regions of the state last week. DCR Commissioner Doug Rice told Matchavariani that they’re aiming to hire around 800 lifeguards across nearly 60 locations. (Applicants have to be at least 16 years old by day one of the job.)
With this kind of pay, I might have to come out of retirement and get my certification renewed! Now all I need is a red swimsuit and SPF 50
