Why is Pikachu from Pokémon Trending Everywhere?
Why is Pikachu trending in my local news feed? In my local sports feed? In my Twitter feed? To get right to the point, Pokémon is making headlines because a major change is occurring.
Ash Ketchum (commonly known as just “Ash”) has been by the side of Pikachu often over the years. ComicBook.com has reported that duo will see its final episode today stating, “The Pokemon Company announced its next anime will not star Ash or Pikachu as the Paldea region comes to television.”
Ash first appeared on Pokémon television in 1997. Since that time, he has grown to be one of the most recognizable characters and a fan favorite. Common questions viewers are asking are – what’s going to happen to Pikachu now? And will he remain the mascot of the franchise with the sidekick?
Reddit discussions on this topic have been taking place for months now. Though Pokémon did note Ash’s inevitable exit earlier this year, fans are understandably emotional with the finale upon us.

Ash’s Legacy
Ash is going out on top, however. Ash became a legendary trainer in the anime world. “The trainer is now known as the strongest out there following his win against Leon at the World Championships. Since their victory, Ash and Pikachu have been revisiting old haunts and friends,” ComicBook.com explained.
Sarah Natochenny, who has been the English voice of Ash told Vox, “Ash’s greatest traits are his tenacity and his love for those around him. So to watch a character for 25 years be this motivated, this dedicated to achieving his goals without making anybody else feel horrible, that’s such a beautiful lesson, especially for young people growing up who are engaging with the show.”
So, Now What?
In the words of SemiSonic’s “Closing Time” (but first attributed to Senaca), “every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” With that in mind, Pokémon has announced new characters from their upcoming new anime series “Pokémon Horizons”.
