Monday, April 19th is bicycle day! Looking to get outside more this Spring? Bike trails and walking paths are the perfect way to do that. Plus, in addition to exploring the most popular areas, it’s also a great way to get exercise in. Click the links below to check out some of our favorite bike trails in Massachusetts!
Ashley Reservoir Trail
Ashley Reservoir Trail is located in Holyoke, Massachusetts and is 3.5 miles long. It is a loop trail that is open year-round, features a lake, and is doable for all skill levels. It also offers a variety of activity options so it is very kid friendly too.
Harold Parker Loop Trail
Harold Parker Loop Trail is located in Harold Parker State Forest near North Reading and is 16.6 miles long. This one is rated as moderate for skill level. It features a lake, as well as many activity options, including bird watching. Dogs are welcome here too!
Cape Cod Canal Bikeway
Located near Buzzards Bay, Cape Cod Canal Bikeway is 14.1 miles long. This one is an out and back trail versus a loop. It features a river and dogs are welcome, as long as they are kept on a leash!
Minuteman Bikeway Trail
Minuteman Bikeway Trail is a popular 10 mile long trail located near Arlington, Massachusetts. It extends from Bedford, MA to Cambridge, MA, passing by Sly Pond and other historical parks and monuments. This one is a point-to-point trail and is suitable for all skill levels.
Charles River Reservation Full Bike Loop
This bike loop is a 27.7 mile long trail located near Cambridge, Massachusetts, going all the way out to the Blue Heron Bike Path in Waltham. It is for moderate skill and offer a variety of activities.
Southern New England Trunkline Trail
This trail, located in Franklin, Massachusetts, is 23.4 miles long and is point-to-point. It is for moderate skill, primarily using for hiking, walking, running, horses, and road biking. It features beautiful wild flowers and welcomes dogs and horses!
Marblehead Rail-Tail
Marblehead Rail-Tail is an out and back trail located near Salem, Massachusetts. It is 8.5 miles long and features a lake. Not only is it suitable for all skill levels, but it also is accessible all year round and passes by wooded areas and some urban neighborhoods.
Nahant Bike Tour
Nahant Bike Tour is a moderate rated 10.2 mile loop trail located near Lynn, Massachusetts. You will bike along a long and narrow beach that will take you by a cave, an old artillery fort, and the grounds of a marine research extension of Northeastern University.
Gloucester Biking Loop
This loop is a 24.8 mile long trail that takes you around Gloucester, Rockport, and Anniquam. You will pass by a beach and several state parks along the way, including Plum Cove. This trail is great for road biking, as well as cars.
Boston’s Emerald Necklace Trail
This trail is 32.5 miles long located near Boston, Massachusetts. You will pass by a lake, gardens, reserves, and a bunch of open space as you bike. Feel free to bring your dog, but make sure he’s kept on a leash!
Bruce Freeman Rail Trail
Bruce Freeman Rail Tail is an 11.6 mile long point-to-point trail located near Lowell, Massachusetts. It now has a new section that also expands into Acton. Most people use this trail for walking, running, bike riding, and nature trips. It is good for all skill levels and open year-round.
