Hardy

Robby Roadsteamer, a mainstay of Boston rock radio and the Boston music scene in the early 2000s, has returned to the city.

If you’re you’re not familiar with this Robby Roadsteamer character, here’s a brief lesson. Created by Peabody native Rob Potylo, Robby broke in as the lead singer of the Boston band The Sweatpant Boners in 2001. The Boners featured a couple other North Shore legends, too: Ken Susi of Unearth and Adam Dutkiewicz of Killswitch Engage. In 2004, Robby Roadsteamer the band debuted with the album Okay Computer., following up a year later with 2005’s The Heart of a Rhino.

Those two releases were enough to put Roadsteamer on the map and earn the act an invitation to the 2005 WBCN Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble. Roadsteamer’s outrageous stage show, featuring songs like “I Put A Baby In You,” “Pee With Your Father,” and “I’m Sorry Your Cat Has Ass Cancer” helped push the band to the finals. They came in second. But in losing the Rumble, Robby actually won. He became a fixture and a fan favorite on my radio show on WBCN. And from the looks of things, Robby would like to bring some of that glory back.

Robby Roadsteamer is Back

After spending quite a few years in California working alongside the late, legendary WWE Superstar Chyna (among other endeavors), Robby is back in the Boston area. And he has some “idears.” He wants to bring back the Boston music scene (which hasn’t actually left, it’s worth noting). And he’s already started rebranding ROCK 92.9 in an effort to get himself back on the air. Check out a few of his more recent videos below. And if you’re not familiar with his music, or if you are and you’d like a nice trip down memory lane, check out Robby Roadsteamer on Bandcamp.
