A unique cat balls calendar is going viral in Japan. It seems like everyone wants one and it’s just as weird as it sounds!

It’s known as the Nyantama Calendar and if you translate the word, you’d know what it was before it was explained. “Nyan” is an onomatopoeia for a cat meowing in Japan, “tama” means orb or orbs which is also a slang for testicles in Japan. Now, the 2025 cat balls calendar is blowing up!

What does this unique Nyantama Calendar show? Exactly what you think. Cats displaying their cat balls. According to Sora News 24, the inspiration comes from Nikkan Gendai, a long-running gossip tabloid magazine that once a year will do a gag issue that’s all about cats with a nyantama photo collection. Now, they’re taking it up a level with an entire calendar you can proudly show off at home.

According to Sora News 24, Hagoromo, the company behind the popular calendar, believes that people feel soothed by the powered-up cat testicles. In addition to the pictures, it also contains extensive information on how lucky any day of the year is based on fortune-telling folk traditions. The calendar can be purchased on Amazon Japan or Rakuten. It looks like it might be popular for high schoolers or in college dorm rooms, but it’s hard to imagine these taking off outside of that. The 2025 Nyantama Calendar is roughly 15.7in x 11.8in and runs for about $12. It’s definitely one way to show your love for cats. It can be ordered through Amazon here or Rakuten here.

I didn’t look it up, not going to, but I wonder if they have a similar calendar for dogs or if this is just a cat thing for cat people. I know Japan is big on cats and has many cat cafes that you can enjoy but you don’t hear as much about puppy cafes or anything like that. So, if you’re a dog person you might have to find yourself a normal calendar, this one probably isn’t for you.

It’s that time of the year where you have to start prepping for 2025 and a calendar like this might be a good way to start! It also could make a great White Elephant gift for the holidays. There’s probably a cat person in your life who would appreciate it.
