New Hampshire Teen Hailed A Hero After Stopping Runaway Boat
You’ve probably only seen stuff like this executed in your favorite Hollywood action flick. In the movies, the star will jump from one boat to another to quickly turn it away or save the day. They’ll jump from one boat to another, one car to another, or from a car onto the train. It’s always an impressive scene. Now, it’s happened in real life!
According to The New York Post, a New Hampshire teen heroically jumped from a jet ski onto a runaway boat to stop it from uncontrollably spinning in a popular lake after the captain of the vessel was knocked overboard in the middle of a sailing lesson. That teenage hero has been identified as 17-year-old Brady Procon. It happened after Brady and his dad noticed the unmanned boat spinning in circles in Smith’s Cove on Lake Winnipesaukee, WMUR reports.
Brady told WMUR, “I was sitting on the porch, and my dad yelled that there was an out-of-control boat in the wake zone.” The New York Post says a student’s boat tipped over onto the instructor’s boat sending the instructor into the water. Then, the mast from the student’s boat hit the boat’s throttle which sent the boat spiraling uncontrollably. That’s when Brady and other witnesses took action. Brady hopped on his neighbor’s jet ski and made the daring leap onto the boat.
Video shows it all happening and Brady was able to bring the boat to a stop, ending the chaos before it caused any damage or injuries. According to WMUR, Brady set to be shipped off to Navy Boot Camp in the Fall. It seems like he should do pretty well there and it could be his calling! The teenager tells The New York Post, “They were calling me a hero, and all that, but I wouldn’t say I’m a hero. To be in any military branch you have to have bravery I guess, I wouldn’t even count what I did as brave, but some sort of don’t think, just do.”
