Best College Towns in America in 2024 – Boston is way down at #188?!?
My key takeaway from WalletHub’s list of the Best College Towns in America in 2024 is… that someone who works for WalletHub got some rejection letters with a return address of Boston, MA.
Every year WalletHub releases their Best College Towns list after comparing 415 cities of varying sizes across three key dimensions: 1) Wallet Friendliness, 2) Social Environment and 3) Academic & Economic Opportunities. I’m guessing we lost big on the first dimension then?! I’m guessing that because Boston did poorly on the 2024 Best College Towns (and Cities) list. Very poorly. We finished just below Kalamazoo, MI at #188. Kalamazoo!!!
I was going to list all 187 cities that beat Boston just to fire you up but here are some highlights (all of these cities and towns ranked as a better college town than Boston): Boone, NC, Naperville, IL, Oshkosh, WI, okay I’m done. Oshkosh and Kalamazoo are both better college towns than Boston? Who made this list for WalletHub, Dr. Seuss?!? No, that’s not possible because A) RIP Dr. Seuss and B) Dr. Seuss is from Massachusetts and would have surely put Boston higher on the list, in the mist, while typing with a fist.
Austin, TX was named the best college school in 2024 – tough to argue against that, I guess. Ann Arbor, MI took home second. Orlando, FL was named third best.
As for other notable New England entries: Cambridge, MA finished far higher than Boston at #58 though I’m sure if we let the students in Cambridge debate with the WalletHub staff it would finish in the Top 10 when all was said and done. Storrs, CT was the highest finisher for New England, coming in at #45. Providence, RI was #71 and New Haven, CT finished at #73.
