Man Thought He Had Runny Nose But His Brain Was Leaking
Imagine thinking you have a slight cold with a runny nose but in reality your brain was leaking! That’s what one guy was told in Syria!
Runny noses are common especially as the weather starts to change. There would be no reason to think anything is seriously wrong with you. That is until other symptoms start to follow and then you realize there might be more to the picture than you think. The symptoms also reportedly started after a brain injury which could have been a sign that things are not as normal as he might believe.
Man’s Brain Was Leaking After Injury
This is definitely a scary story and you’ll certainly think of it the next time you get a runny nose. Of course, there’s no reason to panic. So much more went into this than an ordinary running nose. So, if you happen to get one soon it doesn’t necessarily mean that your brain was leaking. However, it’s always possible, I guess.
According to Daily Star, a 20-year-old unidentified man from Syria had also been suffering from seizures and headaches along with his runny nose after suffering from a brain injury. It’s natural to think it’s just a cold and it sounds like that’s what he was thinking until medical experts revealed that he had his brain bulging out of his nose. The leakage was the clear fluid that protects the brain and spine that’s known as cerebrospinal fluid. Daily Star reports that 6 years ago, the patient suffered a head injury during a car accident and refused treatment at the time. Later on, he developed these problems like seizures and headaches, along with the runny nose. After finally seeking help, he learned that fluid from his brain was leaking in his skull in a condition that’s known as traumatic encephalocele, per Daily Star.
It’s commonly a birth defect but this time it was brought about from trauma in the car accident, it sounds like. A fracture in his skull was leading to the brain leaking from what reports say. Eventually, the leak was repaired. A case report obtained by Daily Star reads, “The surgery was done by a specialist who returned the herniated brain tissues to their normal location, repaired the meninges, and reconstructed the skull base with bone cement and bio-glue. The patient’s recovery after the surgery was uneventful.” If you get in a car accident–go get help! If something about your head is wrong–seek help! You’re only going to have more issues if you decide to wait!
This isn’t the first time it happened. It sounds like it happened to this guy too!
