Can You Get Food Poisoning In Your Penis?
This sounds incredibly scary and you definitely don’t want this happening to you. Thankfully, it’s incredibly rare. This is actually the very first case of rice-related food poisoning affecting the genital region, per Daily Mail.
According to Daily Mail, a 38-year-old man sought help from professionals after suffering redness, swelling, and scabbing on his penis which had been going on for roughly a week. Eventually, their investigations revealed that the concerning symptoms had begun after he’d suffered from some severe diarrhea and vomiting. After running some tests, they found evidence of the bacteria bacillus cereus which is common found in rice that’s been left out at room temperature for too long, per Daily Mail. If eaten, it can cause sickness and make you feel horrible.
Daily Mail reports that doctors concluded that the man’s genital infection was caused by an episode of diarrhea and vomiting that happened right after what was described as “vigorous sex” with his wife. There’s something about the intimate act that can increase the risk of bacteria entering the skin, I guess. Now, doctors are saying this is the first case in literature of food poisoning in the penis. Apparently, he had to avoid sex and masturbation until it healed. That’s not great.
Authors in the journal Annals of Medicine and Surgery note, “In this current case, it is plausible that the diarrhea and vomitus which contaminated the penis post intercourse is likely the source of the skin infection,” via Daily Mail.
