Women Will March Topless In Boston To Protest Massachusetts Laws
This Saturday, August 17th, women will march topless in Boston to protest some Massachusetts laws. They’re saying if men can do it, they can, too!
The “Topfreedom” movement argues that women have the same constitutional rights that men have and they’ll be hitting the streets to protest without their tops on. Some cities allow for full topless equality, while others do not. They’re seeking to bring attention to that and achieve equality among genders and sexes.
Women To March Topless In Boston This Weekend
According to Patch, groups of women are set to march topless at Boston Common this Saturday (August 17th) to protest state laws that allow men but not women to be bare-chested in public. So, they’ll be hitting the streets topless to protest!
The event is called “March for Topless Equality” and will take place between 1 and 3pm starting at The Embrace statue. During the event, protesters will reportedly walk around the park to the Massachusetts State House before returning to the statue. According to Patch, they’ll move through popular streets including Tremont Street, Boylston Street, Charles Street, Beacon Street, and Park Street.
Katrina Brees co-organized the protest for Equalititty (I see what you did there) wrote on Facebook saying, “All genders are encouraged to come topless…Even if you don’t want to be topless, that’s totally fine too…This isn’t about titties, it’s about equalittity,” via Patch. “GoTopless Day” is one of those unique days that’s celebrated on a different day depending on location. While Boston will be celebrating on August 17th, places like New York City, Asheville, and Switzerland will be celebrating on August 24th.
Equalitty tells Patch, “To achieve topless freedom we must communicate this desire for constitutional equality to our lawmakers and representatives. Call, email, or visit with your representatives.”
Additionally, Patch points out that Topless Laws can vary between cities and states and the punishment for doing so varies as well. Equalititty says, “Currently, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas, and Oklahoma as well as all counties and cities therein allow for full topless equality…Topless equality can be achieved at the city, state, or federal level,” via Patch. If you’re going to be in Boston this weekend, get out and participate! This is your chance to walk topless in Boston! If you’re not going to be in Bostin, this might be a good reason to finally check out Bean Town!
Women’s Equality Day is on August 26th and commemorates the 1920 adoption of the 19th amendment giving women the right to vote.
