Spanish Town Bans Penis Costumes And Sex Dolls
According to Daily Star, Platja d’Aro, a popular summer vacation hotspot in Spain, is cracking down on genitalia-themed decorations and costumes that are common with bachelor and bachelorette parties (known as stag and hen parties across the pond).
It seems like it’s a popular spot for people to get wild and host their parties before tying the knot. Now, the Mayor has basically become the Grinch of Bachelorette Parties and is doing all he can do put an end to it. Daily Star even reports that if Mayor Maurici Jimenez had it his way he would ban the parties altogether! What a buzz kill.
The Daily Star reports that the new law will prohibit people from appearing “on the public thoroughfare without clothing or only in their underwear or with clothing or accessories representing human genitals or with dolls or other accessories of a sexual nature.” Yup, all of those phallic balloons and goofy genitalia-shaped items will no longer be allowed there.
Admittedly, it does sound like a pretty wild place. There are stories about people tied to lampposts in the street, loud music, and crazy parties out in public reported about the location. This would be like Las Vegas trying to ban bachelor or bachelorette parties. You have to imagine they’d lose a lot of money by cracking down on these parties. The parties are going to happen, now they’re just going to give their tourism dollars to another city!
Platja d’Aro isn’t the first or only city to ban these types of parties. Towns across southern Spain have been doing this recently. It sounds like tourists are causing most of the problems and this seems to be a way they’re trying to curb all the issues. Will it work? Only time will tell.
