McDonald’s is giving free breakfast for teachers and educators throughout the country this week.

The fast-food chain is holding a “Thank You Meal” breakfast giveaway from now until October 15 for teachers, school staff and administrators at participating restaurants nationwide during breakfast hours.

All you need is a valid work ID to get the free meals that will be served in a classic Happy Meal, but it will include a thank you note in place of the toy. The "Thank You Meal" comes with a choice of one entree, hash browns and a beverage. The entrée choices are an Egg McMuffin, a Bacon, Egg and Cheese Biscuit or a Sausage Biscuit. The drink choices are a medium hot or iced coffee or soft drink. There's a limit of one per person during breakfast hours, which can vary by location, but usually end at 10:30 a.m.

The program was inspired by teacher appreciation campaigns at local restaurants and is a follow to last year's "Thank You" meals for first responders. Jennifer “JJ” Healan, the company's vice president of marketing, brand content and engagement, said in an interview with USA Today.

"We wanted to build on that idea and thank our educators in our communities for all that they've been doing and what they do really every day," Healan said. "It truly is just a gesture for us to say 'thank you.'"

McDonald's first introduced “Thank You” appreciation meals last spring, giving out 12 million meals to health care workers, police officers, firefighters and paramedics.
