It’s berry season (almost)…Someone call Noah Kahan to write a song. Not only that, but today is National Pick Strawberries Day, so how can I not share with you some special places to pick berries in Massachusetts? Let’s go!

Only In Your State/Massachusetts recently named their picks for 9 pick your own berry farms in the state. Out of these choice spots, I picked a few of my own favorites and will pass along 5 berry special places to pick berries in Massachusetts. Grab a basket and get ready!

These places to pick berries in Massachusetts Offer Much More Than Berries

Hey, just so you know, it’s not just about the fruits of your labor. It’s about the fun! With summer coming and the weather finally warming up, what a perfect way to spend a day than road-tripping to pick berries. And some of these places offer more than berries. Some have entertainment, farmstands, food trucks, and animals, as mentioned in the article. Oh, and if a donut barn, live music and movies at a farm interests you, please read on!

Berries always taste so much better when you pick them yourself. Because of all the rain we had, berry picking season may be optimal this year in mid June. But, check each farm’s website for more information on that. What’s your favorite berry? I’m definitely a strawberry and blueberry fan. But here you’ll find places that also offer blackberries and raspberries! How can you go wrong with any of these?

And They Are Berry Good For You

Eat them fresh off the vine (after washing of course), put them in pies, on top of ice cream, in a dessert. Whatever you decide to do with your berries, just know you are supporting local farms and feeding your soul with healthy treats. WebMD says berries are low in calories and high in vitamin C, fiber and antioxidants. Berries are so good and so good for you!

    C.N. Smith Farm is where you will find the donut barn (open Fridays- Sundays 9am-4pm)! And so much more. They  are family owned and operated farm, now celebrating 80 years and 3 generations of farmers. You’ll find fresh, local fruit and produce and ice cream.   • 2. Russell Orchards

    Address: 147 Argilla Rd. Ipswich  

    At Russell Orchards they are excited for strawberry season (mid June). In the meantime, they are open and serving delicious baked goods, made from scratch every day. Plus, you can get their “super local honey, their own brand of fruit wines and hard ciders because they have their own vineyard!  Be sure and visit their tasting room where you can sample the products. And of course, try their homemade ice cream. Owners Doug and Miranda Russell are the 2nd generation of Russell family farmers. This beautiful family owned and operated fruit farm sits on 120 acres in Ipswich.

  • 3. Parlee Farms

    Address: 95 Farwell Rd. Tyngsboro 

    At Parlee Farms, they strive to “produce the best locally grown fruit, vegetables, and flowers while being environmentally responsible.” They’ve been in the business since 1987.  The family-run pick your own fruit and flower farm started as a dream for owners Mark and Ellen Parlee. That dream now lives on a 100-acre farm that is open from mid-June through October offering pick your own apples, blueberries, strawberries, cherries, peaches, flowers, and pumpkin. Best of all, you get to ride on a tractor to pick your fruit. Feed some animals along the way and don’t miss out on a little shopping at the farmstand to get some honey and maple syrup.

  • 4. Cider Hill Farm

    Address: 45 Fern Ave. Amesbury    

    Cider Hill Farm has some sweet news. The Strawberry Festival is coming soon. Save the dates: June 15 and 16. Named by The Travel as #4 Most Beautiful Farm in the World, this family-owned 145 acre farm has a lot going on. From the award winning hard cider to a fabulous bakery, play areas and barnyard, there’s definitely something to love, besides berries, for all ages. There are the festivals, pop-ups, free live music, outdoor cider bar and tastings, as mentioned on their website. And here’s where you’ll find berries for days (in season, of course) from raspberries to strawberries and blueberries. Don’t miss a stop by  The Pitch Fork food truck. 

    Every 3rd Friday through November, join us for a complimentary hard cider tasting 4-6 pm! Today, we are featuring our Strawberry Harvest blend as we approach strawberry season.

  • 5. Hollis Hills Farm

    Address: 340 Marshall Rd. Fitchburg  

    Hollis Hill Farm looks forward to seeing you this berry picking season.  Their Strawberry Festival is June 15 and 16 and they have events going on all year. Come to pick your own strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries. Stay for a hot meal or sandwich at the farm’s own restaurant. Don’t miss out on an ice cream cone before you leave. They even have movie nights, live music and  a retail store. This is one of my favorite spots to pick berries.
