A Perry Farrell interview is always an entertaining trip, and my chat with Perry this morning was no exception.
I did a little digging in the archives on my personal website, because I was sure I'd interviewed Perry in the past, but I wanted to confirm. I've been doing this for almost 25 years, and some of my memories are a bit fuzzy. Sure enough, the last interview I have archived is with the man himself, from October of 2011. So I guess my memory is OK after all.
What makes chatting with Perry so damn fun is you never know what you're going to get, but what you get is always good. Between Jane's Addiction, Porno For Pyros, Lollapalooza, and all of the other offbeat endeavors the man has undertaken over the last five decades, it's no stretch to say he's one of the prime movers not just in alternative rock but in alternative culture. The man is a creative river, running and splashing between the mainstream and the alternative. And his open-mindedness and in-the-moment attitude make for a pretty special conversation dynamic.

This time around, Perry was calling in to chat about the upcoming Smashing Pumpkins and Jane's Addiction Spirits On Fire Tour. And the timing was perfect, as just hours before we got on the phone together, news broke that Dave Navarro would be sitting the tour out. Dave's still struggling with the effects of long COVID. So naturally, Perry and I started the conversation there. Then a hawk flew overhead, so we talked about hawks and Taylor Hawkins. We eventually came back around to talk about who would replace Dave in the band this fall (it's one of my favorite guitarists).
