We’re rude people. Boston is now considered one of the rudest cities in America. Is anyone shocked? We shouldn’t be. How often do you encounter road rage incidents? How often is a door slammed in your face? How often is the elevator door shut on you just as you’re about to step inside? Sure we have many amazing and friendly people here, however because we’re always in such a rush tryin’ to get everywhere, we’ve lost our manners. Let’s take a look at who did this survey and how they came up with it.

The website www.preply.com did the survey and over 1,500 residents of the 30 largest metropolitan areas in the U.S were asked to describe their city’s rudeness. The survey was done to explain to people traveling to said city how rude to expect the people there. According to its own residents, the rudest cities are Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Memphis, Tennessee, and New York City, New York. The most common rude behavior according to the people in the Preply survey: “people being absorbed by their phones, refusing to let people merge in traffic, and being noisy in shared spaces.” The way the cities are ranked is based on a score. The residents are asked to rank the rudeness of their city on a scale of 1-10. When reading the list, you’ll see where exactly the city landed on the “rudeness” scale.

Oh and another interesting tidbit about the survey. People in general tend to think that people who live in the city are ruder than those who live in more rural areas. 70% of respondents agreed with the statement “people who live in or around cities are ruder than people who live in rural areas.” So, let’s take a look at where Boston landed on this list. If you agree, shoot us a Facebook message. We’d love to hear your thoughts.
