Open Newbury Street Is Back – Just-Announced Dates For Car-Free Food And Fun
Open Newbury Street is back and we can’t wait! The beloved Boston tradition takes the cars off the street, and makes way for a better shopping, dining, and walking experience.
History of Open Newbury Street
Open Newbury Street was a pilot program that started in 2016. At the time, thousands of people came out to enjoy shopping and street dining without the interference of cars crowding the street. That year, it was held on one Sunday in August. It was expanded to three Sundays a year in 2017, 2018, and 2019.
After a one-year hiatus, it returned for three Sundays in 2021. It was then held for six consecutive Sundays in late August and September in 2022.
Open Newbury Street 2024
The event this year will run for 10 consecutive Sundays starting on June 30th. It will end on September 1st, although there will be two dates announced later for December for your holiday shopping. Streets will be closed to cars from 10am – 8pm from Berkeley Street to Mass Ave.
About the event, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu says, “I’m grateful to the many small business owners who work together with the City to make this possible, and am so excited to welcome back our residents and visitors to enjoy the dining, walking, and shopping, and celebrating in the heart of Back Bay that Open Newbury offers.”
Not Just Newbury Street
Newbury Street isn’t the only street in the city to get the cars off the road. Here are the other neighborhoods that can look forward to the fun.
